Europe’s Astronauts

The European Correspondent - Jan 2024

The European Space Agency (ESA) has recently expanded its astronaut roster to 11, adding five new members in 2022.

Some of the new generation, now in training, will take part in 2027’s Artemis III mission to return astronauts to the moon. All are set to fly to the ISS by 2030.

The new graduates replace the current ESA astronauts approaching retirement, and will continue the legacy that began with Ulf Merbold’s 1983 flight.
